Grinding evenly without heat? The ole of cooling system in double disc grinding machine

Release time: 2025-05-24

In the machining industry, double disc grinding machines are widely used in many fields such as automotive, bearings, hydraulics, electronics and so on for their high efficiency and accurate flat surface machining capability. However, many users will encounter a problem in the process of use: high-intensity grinding easily leads to heat, burns, and even thermal deformation of the workpiece. At this time, the role of the cooling system becomes critical.

So what exactly is the role of the cooling system in a double disc grinding machine? How does it help to achieve even grinding and burn-free surfaces?

First, the source of grinding heat

In the processing of double disc grinding machine, the grinding wheel rotates at high speed and continuously contacts the surface of the workpiece, realizing the removal of material through strong friction. This process will release a large amount of heat, mainly concentrated in the following areas:

Localized temperature rise at the grinding point: the contact point between the grinding wheel and the workpiece has a small area, but the pressure is large, which is very easy to generate high temperature;

The grinding wheel itself heats up: the friction of the grinding wheel itself also heats up;

The heat accumulates and is difficult to be released: especially thin workpieces, the heat capacity is low, and it is difficult to diffuse the heat.

If the temperature is not cooled down in time, it is very easy to have burns, cracks, discoloration on the surface of the workpiece, and even affect its structural strength.

Second, the main role of the cooling system

In modern double disc grinding machines, the cooling system has become one of the core configurations. Its main roles include:

1. Cooling down to prevent burns

The coolant is evenly sprayed to the grinding area through the nozzle, which can effectively take away a large amount of heat generated at the contact point, preventing the workpiece and the grinding wheel from rising too high in temperature and avoiding burns and deformation.

2. Lubricate the grinding process

The lubricating component added in the coolant can reduce the friction coefficient during grinding, make the grinding smoother, improve the surface finish of the processed surface and prolong the life of the grinding wheel.

3. Flushing away grinding chips and impurities

The metal powder and abrasive chips generated during processing will lead to scratches and clogging if they remain on the grinding surface. The coolant can flush them away in time to keep the machining area clean.

4. Improve machining efficiency and consistency

Proper temperature control can keep the hardness of the workpiece stable and the size constant, which is conducive to maintaining the consistency of size and flatness accuracy in batch processing.

Third, the common cooling method

According to the grinding process and equipment configuration, there are mainly the following cooling methods for double disc grinding machines:

Powerful Jet Cooling: High-pressure pump is used to spray the coolant into the grinding area at high speed, which has stronger cooling effect and is suitable for high load grinding;

Circulation Filtering System: The coolant passes through multi-stage filters and is circulated for use, which reduces the cost and minimizes the environmental pollution;

Localized Precision Cooling: The direction of spraying and flow rate of the coolant are accurately controlled by adjustable nozzles, which is suitable for different workpiece sizes and shapes.

High-end equipment is also equipped with temperature control and flow control system, which can intelligently adjust the cooling intensity according to the grinding temperature and realize finer process control.

Fourth, the common misunderstanding in the use of cooling system

Many users have some misunderstandings in the use of the cooling system of the double disc grinding machine:

Myth 1: The more coolant the better

In fact, the coolant should be reasonably configured according to the amount of grinding and wheel type, too much will cause waste and oil mist pollution.

Myth 2: long time not replace the coolant

Coolant will deteriorate after a long time of use, affecting the cooling and lubrication effect, should be regularly replaced and cleaned filtration system.

Myth 3: Only focus on the workpiece, do not maintain the system

Cooling pumps, nozzles, pipeline cleaning and maintenance is equally important, otherwise it is easy to cause clogging and reduce efficiency.
